The WGJ-8 automatic poultry weighing system during the breeding process
Download the presentation of Automatic Poultry Weghing System
The automatic poultry weighing system is designed for continuous control of birds weight growth. The JOTAFAN WGJ-8 automatic poultry weighing system consists of scales pans in a poultry house that are connected to the controller or (optionally) to a PC computer.
One controller can operate with up to 16 scales pans. Data delivered by each of scales pans are saved separately, also an average and other statistical parameters are calculated independently for each pan. The scales panes can be grouped in ‘flocks’ for which the controller shows an average and other statistical parameters. Thanks to this solution it is possible to use one controller to support, e.g. a few poultry houses with broilers or to control flocks in a poultry house divided into zones, e.g. during breeding the parents flocks. The recording of flocks is fully independent- they can be at different ages.
An example of arrangement and grouping of scales pans in a poultry house - parent flock breeding:
- cocks,
- hens 1 (selected light hens),
- hens 2 (other hens).

The WGJ-8 controller is used to communicate with scales pans. It sends parameters of measurements but mainly it calculates and shows statistical parameters such as: an average, growth, unification, birds movement and other data useful in the process of breeding. A large, easy to read display gives possibility to read current parameters and a so called ‘weight age of the flock’ that is an age estimated on the basis of weights: average and standard for present hour of the breeding process (Fig. 2). The observation of the flock age enables to detect quickly any irregularities in the breeding process.
The controller’s memory contains standard curves for basic flocks (broiler and parent flocks): ROSS-308, COBB-500, HUBBARD F-15 and FLEX, as well as for turkeys: BIG-6 and BIG-9.
On a display of the WGJ-8 controller (change in a screen size is made by means of buttons ‘Up Arrow’ and ‘Down Arrow’) the following data can be read (independently for particular scales pans or for ‘flocks’):
- the day of flock age (calendar),
- number of weighing acts during this day,
- an average for the statistical period (the system operates continuously but parameters can be calculated in a selected time period- for a broiler, e.g. for the last 8 hours of the day),
- growth,
- a ‘forecasted average’ for the next days of the breeding period on the basis of upward trends in previous days,
- unification,
- flock activity (as number of weighing acts per hour).
The other statistical parameters for all days of breeding of recorded flocks, with sex distinction, such as:
- values: minimum and maximum,
- standard deviation,
- uniformity CV.
are available in menu ‘Statistical analysis’.
Easy-to-use and intuitive navigation through the controller’s menu enables quick and trouble-free review of individual parameters as well as a review of average weights and growths in all breeding days (Fig.2).

below: the screen of the comparison of flock’s age resulting from actual average weight and standard curve. Thanks to this information it is possible to estimate whether the flock grows properly (if we observe the decrease in the flock age resulting from the average weight then it is a warning signal- it can be a sign of sickness, nutrition problem or inappropriate microclimate).
The WGJ-8 controller stores in its memory each weighing act together with date and time- after connecting a PC computer and usage of the WGJ-8C programme a detailed data analysis can be performed as well as it is possible to prepare reports in the shape of tables with figures or charts.
The controller can record weighings up to 1000 days (with 16 scales pans and 5000 weighing acts per day on each of them).
There are 3 kinds of scales pans in the WGJ-8 automatic poultry weighing system:
- WGJ-W hanging scales pan – measurement range from 30g to 32kg, resolution 1g, best suited for weighing hens and female turkeys,
- WGJ-P floor scales pan – measurement range from 30g to 80kg, resolution 2g, for male turkeys,
- WGJ-I hanging scales pan – measurement range from 30g to 65kg, resolution 2g, for heavy birds (turkeys in final period of the breeding process).
There can be connected to the WGJ-8 controller simultaneously different kinds of pans.
The controller is equipped with a relay alarm output. There are brought out COM, NO and NC contacts of a relay that enable connection to the majority of alarm systems. The following alarms can be activated:
- disturbances in the process of breeding: too low activity, too low unification, change of proportion between lighter and heavier birds from standard weight,
- power supply failure,
- lack of communication between the controller and scales pans,
- measurement line damage of a weighing pan,
- damage of the sensitive parts of the controller.
This device is equipped with interfaces: USB and RS-485 that enable to connect a PC computer to control the scales system remotely, reading of collected data and analyse them in greater detail.
NEW!
The WGJ-8 controller can be equipped with an Ethernet module or WiFi giving possibility to its connection (by means of a wired or wireless router) to the Internet network or wireless data transmission between poultry houses and an office of a social room. Thanks to this solution it is possible to connect quickly and easily all controllers on the farm in the network and control them remotely.
